Do you have detailed knowledge of discrimination law?

Are you experienced in the Civil Court?

Do you aspire to make a real difference to society through your work?

If you can answer yes to all of the above, this position could be your pathway to achieving your career goals!

Citizens Advice Gateshead is an independent charity and an affiliated member of the national Citizens Advice network. Our vision is for a fair society for all, with lives well lived.  Our mission is to mobilise knowledge so the system works, it works for everyone, and it powers the changes we need to be an equal and inclusive society. To achieve this we deliver services locally to almost 13,000 people a year, and support over 400,000 people nationally through digital advice and information services, including the discrimination advice service.

The role

The Discrimination Law Specialist will join our busy Civil Legal Advice Discrimination team, whose role is to use the law to undo the consequence of unfair treatment on grounds of race, age, gender, pregnancy, sexual orientation, religion, belief or disability. Key responsibilities will be the provision of advice, casework and legal representation for clients affected by discrimination.

Skills and experience

We are looking for someone who has detailed knowledge of Discrimination Law and progressing cases to litigation. The successful candidate will be an effective communicator who can interpret information and explain it to others, as well as having a track record of excellent customer service and producing high quality work - experience of operating within a Specialist Quality Mark framework would also be an advantage. A reasonable level of IT literacy is also required.

What you can expect

The Discrimination Law Specialist will join a charity with strong social values and a clear vision that is innovative and forward thinking. As well as your primary function you will also be involved in a range of organisational development and fundraising initiatives so we can achieve our goal of being an enduring and dynamic charity that never stands still until we have a fair society for all, with lives well lived.
